Foam echosclerotherapy

Foam Echosclerotherapy (Spider Vein & Varicose Vein Removal)

How it works: a special sclerosing agent is injected into the enlarged veins. This foam solution is administered through a micro-needle, coating the vessel walls and filling the vein. You then put on a compression stocking to keep the vein in a compressed state. Within 4–6 days the vein seals shut. Compression stockings should be worn for up to 1 month. The maximum effect can be felt and seen after 6–12 months.

Foam Echosclerotherapy: Procedure Details

Surgical intervention is not always the only option for eliminating varicose veins and spider veins. For over 10 years, phlebologists have been using a minimally invasive procedure called foam echosclerotherapy. The primary goal is to close the vein lumen and eliminate defects with the lowest possible risk of complications. This procedure is available at our clinic.

Indications

A liquid sclerosant does not produce the same effect on large-calibre veins as the same agent in foam form. Moreover, the significantly smaller amount of sclerosant required reduces the risk of complications and makes the cost more affordable compared to direct surgical intervention. This procedure is recommended for patients suffering from spider veins and varicose veins of various diameters at different stages of the disease, as well as post-operative treatment in cases of recurrence.

Contraindications

The procedure has a standard set of contraindications: allergic reactions to the components of the sclerosant; a short period following surgical intervention that excludes the use of the agent for medical reasons. The safety of the procedure allows it to be performed multiple times for the treatment of veins at various locations on the patient's body.

Procedure Steps

The procedure must be performed by a qualified physician using modern equipment and a high-quality sclerosant. Preparation consists of the following stages:

  • Ultrasound scanning to identify damaged veins and determine the lumen for catheter or thin needle placement (depending on the condition of the vein).
  • Preparation of the foam solution by adding air to a measured dose of the agent and mixing until foam forms.

The procedure itself involves injecting the agent and monitoring its distribution through the vein via ultrasound. If necessary, the doctor may perform a repeat foam injection to achieve the desired effect. As a result, the lumen of the affected vein is filled with the foam agent without mixing with blood.

Results for Patients

To improve the outcome and prevent complications, the patient:

  • is fitted with a compression stocking or elastic bandage to achieve the necessary compression (worn for up to 14 days);
  • is advised to take a one-hour walk, which helps prevent deep vein thrombosis.

Thanks to the reduced agent dosage, high precision under ultrasound guidance and the high effectiveness of the procedure, foam echosclerotherapy is approved for repeated use. Contact our clinic to receive an excellent solution for varicose veins with minimal trauma and outstanding results.
